　　铜仁市于1997年普及初等教育，2005年实现了以县为单位的“两基”攻坚目标，2009年通过国家督导评估，被认定为“两基”合格。到2011年底，全市共有各级各类学校（幼儿园）2663所。其中：幼儿园345所（含民办281所）、小学2038所(含完全小学1446所、教学点567个，民办25所)、初中213所（含民办13所）、特殊教育学校5所，高（完）中42所（含民办9所）、中职学校17所（含民办4所），普通高等教育学校1所、职业高等教育学校1所、电大1所。有在校学生888706人。其中：小学生440046人，初中生224086人，普通高中学生77829人，幼儿园、学前班105696人，特殊教育学校学生343人，中职学生26738人，专科生9085人（含两院成人专科585人），本科4883生（含两院成人本科121人）。有教职工44704人，其中：小学专任教师20860人，初中专任教师11244人，特殊教育学校专任教师92人，高（完）中专任教师5370人，中职学校专任教师962人，幼儿园专任教师1572人，高校专任教师912人（含铜仁学院490人、铜仁职院422人）。目前，已基本形成高等教育、中等教育、义务教育、职业教育、学前教育、特殊教育协调发展的多层次、多形式、多学科门类齐全的教育体系，教育事业呈现良好的发展势头。
